GIANT BAMBOO CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY MARKS THE START OF CHRISTMAS SEASON AND FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF CALATAGAN
It is only the first week of November but Christmas is felt in Calatagan when a bamboo Christmas tree illuminated in a lighting ceremony at Calatagan Park in Poblacion 3, Calatagan, Batangas last Monday evening.
The giant christmas tree that stands 6 meters high is made up of bamboo which is an indigenous material on the said town.
The giant bamboo christmas tree took 2 weeks to build which is a product of bayanihan of residents and municipal employees.
Decorated with whimsical lights people trooped to the instagrammable Christmas piece to get a selfie or groupie with friends, family, and loved ones.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Calatagan Executive Assistant Glenn Aytona likened the use of bamboo to the bond that the Calatagan community is having.
“Sama-sama lagi. ‘Pag may unos, tulong-tulong. Sa hirap at ginhawa, tulong-tulong po dito sa Calatagan..,” Aytona said.
The christmas tree lighting ceremony also marks the 107th founding anniversary of Calatagan which will be celebrated this December through 3rd Kinuyog Festival.
