Special Treat for Special Customers at SM City Batangas. Close to 300 visually and hearing impaired persons were treated to a day of fun movie experience. The movie treat held last August 7, 2017.
Dubbed as “Special Movie Screening for the Blind and Deaf”. The movie “Pan” was shown with added features of Audio Description and Closed Captioning. This enables the blind and the deaf audiences to enjoy the movies like any other movie-going public.
SPECIAL MOVIE SCREENING FOR THE BLIND AND DEAF AT SM CITY BATANGAS…
Audio description is a special narration of key visual elements of a film. These are the blind viewers would ordinarily miss like the movie scenes. The narrated description inserted into pauses between screen dialogues to add context to the story. But without disturbing the original flow of the film. This would enable the visually impaired movie-goer to follow the development of the film story. Without guessing or asking somebody else what’s going on.
Closed captioning, on the other hand, transcribe the audio portion of the film so that the deaf audience can read the printed words on the screen. Captions also identify the speakers in the movie, describe in words the sound effects and indicate music and laughter for the non-hearing audiences.
The audio description gives the advantage not only to the blind but also to sighted persons who can benefit from the concise translation of the visual elements, Persons with autism and learning difficulties as well as English students with its value in literacy and vocabulary development. Similarly, captions can reinforce language development and reading skills for both the hearing and the deaf audiences.
Special Movie Screening for the Blind and Deaf at SM City Batangas is a project initiative of SM Cares. In partnership with the City Social Welfare and Development Office, Batangas City and Batangas Province Federation of PWD, Brgy. Gulod, MTRCB and SM Cinema Batangas to bring greater accessibility of movies and visual media to PWD’s in Batangas.
