SEA GAMES 2019: Philippines dominates 3×3 basketball clinches Gold both for men & women category

It’s a double celebration for team Philippines after winning gold, both for men and women category for 3×3 basketball. This is the first time that 3×3 is being contested in the history of SEA Games.

The Gilas women composed of Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, Clare Castro, and the pride of Lemery Batangas Janine Pontejos were able to atone their only loss in the competition early in the day against Thailand.

The Gilas women started strong as Bernardino goes berserk scoring 10 of the 17 total points of the team. With the towering presence of Castro, the all-around effort of Animam, the ball wizardry and outside threat provided by Pontejos sums up all the misery for the Thailand side.

Final score: Philippines 17-13

The Gilas Pilipinas 3×3 men team composed of PBA stars Moala Tautuaa, Jason Perkins, Chris Newsome, and CJ Perez completes the unbeaten run to win the gold medal for the country.

The Philippine side faced Indonesia in the final round and beating them with the final score of 21-9.

CJ Perez is too relentless scoring inside and out and he even posterized someone with an in your face jam. Chris Newsome has some iso plays and Jason Perkins is very effective inside the paint. Mo Tautuaa sinks the gold-clinching two pointers from beyond the arc to get the win.
