In celebration of the National Children’s Book Reading Day, around 110 pupils from selected Elementary Schools in Batangas City and Lipa City participated in the storytelling session. It was held simultaneously at SM City Batangas and SM City Lipa last July 18, 2017.
Two story books, “Two Friends and One World” by Ramon Vicente Sunico which is about friendship and “Bumabara-bara by Fernando Rosal Gonzales which is about taking care of the environment were featured in the storytelling session. It was complemented with a visual presentation and read by invited guests.

At SM City Batangas, guest storytellers were attended by TV Patrol Southern Tagalog News Anchor, Val Balita and the teachers from partner schools and selected affiliates of the mall.
Val Balita read “Two Friends and One World” by Anvil Publishing while the teachers together with the mall affiliates read “Bumabara-bara” by Vibal Publishing to grades 4, 5 and 6 students of Sirang Lupa Elementary School, Libjo Elementary School, Pallocan East Elementary School and Jose C. Pastor Memorial School.

The students were also given free books from National Bookstore and Vibal Publishing. They were also treated with entertainment from Jollibee mascot and a free meal from SM City Batangas.
Books donation was also turned over to the participating schools received by their school principals and teachers witnessed by Dep Ed Batangas City thru Ms. Marie Paz Cloza and Division Reading Program thru Ms. Estelita Gonzales during the event.
Meanwhile, at SM City Lipa, a teacher from Don Leon Dolor Memorial Elementary School reads a book for the students. The members of the 3rd Air Force Wing Reserve delights the students of Don Leon Dolor Memorial Elementary School with the story dialogues and sounds.
The students were also given SM Bears of Joy, books and school supplies from National Bookstore.
Together with partners from the Department of Education (DepEd), SM Foundation, Vibal Publishing, Anvil Publishing and National Bookstore, National Children’s Book Reading Day aimed to cultivate and nurture in children, a love for reading and highlight books as a tool that would instill proper values. Encourage children to explore, widen their horizons and learn about other cultures in a FUN yet safe environment.
