Yuka Saso made history by becoming the first Filipino to win a major golf tournament after winning the 2021 US Women’s Open in San Francisco on Sunday.
Saso matched 2008 winner Inbee Park as the youngest U.S. Women’s Open champion at the age of 19.
She overcame back-to-back double bogeys early in the round to make the playoff.
Saso then won it with a 10ft putt on the ninth hole to become this years champion.In an interview, Saso tearfully thanked her family and supporters,
“I’d like to thank my family, I wouldn’t be here without them,” “To all my sponsors and to all my friends and fans back in the Philippines and Japan, I’m so thankful.”
The Filipina champ also hopes to be better, to to keep it going.
