Duterte eyes ban on plastic use to save the environment.
President Rodrigo Duterte is currently eyeing a ban on plastic use in the Philippines.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, Duterte opens up about the idea during 6th Cabinet meeting on Wednesday during the presentation of priority programs for the environment and climate change.
But the President is well aware about the need for a legislative action, that the Congress will have to pass a law that will ban the use of plastics.
Several bills seeking to ban the use of single-use plastics are currently pending in Congress. One of these is Senate Bill 40 authored by Senator Francis Pangilinan.
Recently, President Duterte called on Southeast Asian nations for an intensified regional cooperation in protecting the environment and fight pollution in the ocean. This was during the 35th Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) plenary.
