Batangas City Athletics-Tanduay spoils a 32-point game explosion from former PBA superstar Gary “El Granada” David of Bataan Defenders late Saturday night at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum to win it with a final score of 88-73.
The Athletics hosted the Bataan Defenders and beat them with their balance attack as seven of its players scored double digits to secure a 2-0 standing on the inaugural season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) known as the Anta -Rajah Cup.
Val Acuña, the former PBA player San Mig Coffee once again lead the way with 13 points for the Batangas Athletics-Tanduay.
Moncrief Rogado and Paul Varilla contributed 11 points apiece while Jaymo Eguilos, Lester Alvarez and Bernabe Teodoro had 10 for Batangas City.
The Bataan Defenders has failed to get the needed support to back up Gary David’s 32-point explosion to match Batangas Athletics’ balance firepower.
Despite the win, Batangas City head coach Mac Tan wasn’t happy with the way the game was played by his players.
“I’m not fully satisfied because we underestimated our opponents..We prepared to run, but we didn’t take care of the ball.”-Coach Mac Tan
According to Tan, he wants to build the character of his team to play consistent all throughout the game.
“We need to improve our character,” added Tan. “Yung energy minsan nawawala. Kailangan ma-sustain namin ito for 40 minutes,”coach Tan added.
Meanwhile, the Navotas Clutch relied on the clutch jumper of Rey Publico with 56 seconds left to repel the Bulacan Kuyas to win it 77-76 in overtime.
