Earlier this week, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued two fishers off the coast of Calatagan, Batangas.
PCG Station Batangas, headed by Capt. Geronimo Tuvilla, got a notification from the Vessel Traffic Monitoring System-Batangas concerning a capsized motorbanca in their area of responsibility.
According to the PCG, “the PCG Station Batangas relayed said information to the PCG Sub-Station Calatagan to dispatch a search and rescue (SAR) team onboard Coast Guard aluminum boat, AB-179.”
Despite the “strong seas and wind conditions” in the area, the SAR crew was able to locate and rescue two fishermen.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, PCG said that the two fishermen, 27-year-old Fernan Cantoja and 21-year-old Jayson Lidores, were rescued in the waters around the Cape Santiago Light Station motorbanca capsized on Monday.

According to the PCG, “the rescued individuals were brought to safety, assessed, and properly turned over to their families, while the capsized motorbanca was towed back to shore.”
Tuvilla urged fishermen and other seafarers to “prioritize their safety” by not venturing out to sea during inclement weather or sea conditions.
